The Buckie Rotary Club first organised their 6 Harbour Walk in the 90s
Over the years this event has grown with walkers travelling from various parts of the country to participate in the walk and raise funds for local and national charities.
2017 saw the inaugural 6 Harbour Row with participation from Finechty and Cullen skiffs. That year FWSC only had skiff Morag, and we decided the easiest way to achieve this with several crews was to use one of our member’s yachts, About Time as a support boat and ferry the crews from harbour to harbour. As the tides were very low along the way, About Time was unable to enter the small harbours, therefore starting at Portsoy we changed crews in Sandend Bay, Cullen Bay, outside Portknockie and Finechty harbours and finished the row in Buckie Harbour where we all boarded About Time and patted each other the back proud of our achievement.
2022 was our next 6 Harbour Row when the walk restarted after the Covid restrictions were lifted. That year Morag and Morven were joined by Banac and Tarbh Uisge from Burghead. The 4 skiffs rowed the route from Portsoy to Cullen then Finechty for crew changes and refreshments, before heading to Buckie, where they about turned and rowed back to Finechty to recover the skiffs on to their trailers.
2023 saw the event grow with 12 skiffs competing. These came from Findhorn and along the Moray coast and round to Colliston in Aberdeenshire.
2024 saw a total of 15 skiffs entering, plus 2 Wemyss skiffs one from Colliston and the other “Puddock” which was officially launched at Cullen whilst the skiffs were in Cullen for a stop. The skiffs included one from Anstruther, the home of SCRA, and some “extra” rowers from Broughty Ferry and Queens Ferry. Due to the slipway at Buckie harbour not being available to recover the skiffs, the last leg of the row was from Finechty, around Craigenroan, then back to Finechty where good team spirit was involved with all clubs helping each other recover their skiffs on to their trailers. Refreshments including soup, sandwiches, home bakes and fruit were provided by FWSC for the 130 + rowers and crew who participated on the day, followed by a group photo on the beach.
